When you breeze by candles in a store, what usually comes to your mind? Decorating? Yes, it’s true; candles really create a wonderful accent to any type of décor. However, candles have been used for years to symbolize unity, new beginnings, hope and remembrance and in life events to symbolize certain feelings and emotions

Candles are intrinsically connected to many events in our lives, such as birthdays, holiday dinners and religious celebrations. Recently, however, candles have become a part of our everyday lives adding warmth style and mood to every room in your home. See how the candles have managed doing this.

Think outside

If you live in the part of the country that has mild temperatures, consider using lights and candles to create an impressive entrance. This is especially dramatic if you are hosting a party. Just make sure that everything you place that has a flame is in a very safe and secure area.

Dress up Those Tea Candles

A great way to decorate is with those inexpensive tea candles. You can buy them in bulk in most candle stores, at IKEA, at bed and bath stores, even at your local mart. Take a few of them and glue some decorative ribbon around the base or place them in decorative holders. Spread them around for extra cheer or use them on tables or as part of your dinner decorations.

Make Your Windows Sills Dramatic and Different

A grouping of candles all the same color on a window sill makes a stunning decoration and can be easily enjoyed by everyone from the curb as well. I live in a neighborhood that doesn’t go all out with Christmas decorations, but still I like to come up with ideas that are different from the norm. Dressing up your windows can be easy and fun and it’s a great place to use little ingenuity. Pebbles from the garden are perfect to add a little something extra and serve as weights to hold the candles in place.

Enhance the Look of Your Candles with Mirrors

Place burning candles by mirrors to reflect their beauty and light. This is an effective way to make it look like you have twice the amount of candles. This adds more beautiful glowing light that reflects out into your room and also adds a beautiful sense of depth to your décor.

When I have guests over, I like to burn a candle on the counter in front of a big mirror we have in our powder room. It always looks like there are two beautiful candles burning. The best part is, I only paid for one!

Many candle accessories are designed with mirrors to reflect the light because the designers know this creates such a beautiful look. Some candle accessories designed with mirrors include pillar plates and candle sconces.

Floating Candle Centerpiece

Place floating candle in a decorative bowl and use a centerpiece for your dinner table or to accent a buffet you’ve created for your guests. People use all kinds of bowls to float candles in, but most popular are clear glass bowls. That way, the light and moving water is reflected on your table.

For another look that never fails to create drama, float a single floating candle in a martini glass and place a few of them around your table while you dine. It creates a great atmosphere that your guests will love and also serves as a great conversation piece. Another tip is to float rose petals along with your floating candles.

Finally, remember the following safety tips:

Never place candles near an open window, leave a burning candle unattended or no combustible material. Rather, use appropriate flame-resistant dandle-holders. Keep children and pets away from burning candles. Keep wicks trimmed and out of drafts to avoid smoking.

Before a party, light and extinguish the candles. They’ll light more quickly and easily later.

Clean solid candles with a piece of nylon or use a touch of salad oil on a soft cloth.

To remove wax from washable fabrics, scrape off excess wax and run boiling water through the material.

Remove wax from holders by running very hot water over them.

Candles refrigerated before using will burn more slowly and evenly. Wrap in foil or plastic before refrigeration to prevent wicks from absorbing moisture.

Candles will fade if left in the light for an extended period of time. Never put candles in a window or directly expose to bright outdoor light or indoor spot-lights.

There are many elements in home decorating that will provide a warm and comfortable environment. From the colors one chooses to paint the walls to the style of the furniture, one can create a safe haven for oneself and for their guests. One such element, is the candle. Candles change the mood of a room, be it through their warm glow or their scent, or both. They are easy enough to find in the retail market, and now-days there are stores that specialize in just candles alone. It is easy enough to find wonderful candles in those stores, however, that is not the only route to take when you want to bring this warmth into your home. Why not do it yourself? Why not make your own candles?

Now you may be saying to yourself, that this would be too much of an undertaking. The time and the effort, and the mess, could easily be avoided by simply jumping in the car and driving to the candle store. But this endeavor is much easier than you may think. The list of ingredients and the list of necessary tools and supplies, are relatively short lists. Just as it is much more satisfying to enjoy a homemade apple pie over a store bought one, relaxing in a room filled with candles you made yourself is much more satisfying and rewarding. You will be able to customize not only the look and color of your candle, but the fragrance of it as well.

Most of the tools are items you most likely already have. For heating the wax, you will need either an electric stove or a hot plate. If you have a large pot, you just fill it with water. Insert an old can, such as a coffee tin, into the pot. The water will boil, but the melting wax will be contained inside the can. Clean up is easy, as when you are finished, you simply toss the can into the garbage. You will need a mold for your melted wax. This can be any container, such as a milk carton or a few paper cups. These are the only tools you will need. Now on to the supplies.

Wax and a wick and a fragrance of your choice. That’s it. Choices are a plenty when it comes to the kind of wax you choose to use. One of the most commonly used waxes in the candle making process is paraffin wax. It is easy to use and comes in a variety of melting points, which allows you to create everything from small votive candles to taller pillar style candles. Beeswax is another commonly used wax in the candle making. However, it may be a bit more expensive as it is harvested in smaller quantities than paraffin. But, this wax is wonderful for making candles. The candles made from beeswax tend to glow evenly and warmly, and need no fragrance added. A faint smell of honey will fill your home when burning these candles.

Three other waxes are being used more and more. These are soy wax, palm wax, and gel wax. Soy and palm wax are similar to beeswax in that they are gaining popularity due to the fact that they are considered all-natural products. Both come in a variety of melting points, just as paraffin, and both burn clean and strong. Gel wax, isn’t really wax at all. It is a combination of mineral oil and resin. What makes gel wax different is that fact that you are able to create a different look…candles made from gel are often transparent. For this reason, many people are choosing to make their candles from gel as the decorative aspects are endless.

Regardless of the wax you decide to go with, making your own candles will not only provide warmth and a certain mood to any room, but in making your own candles you are making a statement about your own personal style. It is one way to make your home your own, and one way to make sure you have the exact candle, with exact scent to meet your tastes. The possibilities are limitless when you decide to just do it yourself.

Blue is a refreshing and a attractive color that can be a great accent or centerpiece to any decor and blue candles are easy to use in a wide variety of home and party decorations. Blue candles can easily mix up with the other décors. They are used for healing magic, wisdom, harmony and inner light. They are candles that usually represent peace and guidance and by using these candles can enhance spells or magical workings that have to do with these situations or themes. In general, they are used for healing, health and happiness, devotion and spiritual development. Use shades of blue when you’re seeking tranquility, forgiveness, peace, truth, harmony and understanding. Light blue opens inspiration, blessings in the home and sexual fidelity. Deep blue are used for loyalty, successful group endeavors and work situations. Blue doesn’t have to represent sadness. There are many enticing shades of blue that can be gorgeous additions to your home décor and using blue candles definitely add a brilliant touch for anyone. Furthermore, they come in a wide range of subtle and delicious scents adding luxurious aromas to your surroundings as well as color to your home. Just like any colored candles, they are virtually available in a variety of different amount of shades. If you are planning to color match them to other decorative colored candles and items or a specific color palette, compare the colors before making a bulk candle purchase. These are popular and it is possible to buy them at bulk orders or discount retail stores. Candle outlet stores, specialty candle stores and home accessory stores are all likely to carry at least limited range of different blue candles shades. For a more extensive blue color palette, however, as well as a wider variety of blue-related scents, online merchants are a better choice. They also make great gifts for any kind of occasion and for all kinds of people. You can pick up paired blue candles designed like a prince and princess or heart-shaped candles are best as wedding favors. They can be also shaped as chocolate pieces which is a great hit with kids during birthday parties. Blue candles also come as tiny tea lights or larger candles in jars and tin cans. Larger ones placed in jars can be painted or manufactured according to theme to match a party. Ones in jars come in casino, fairy, green, romantic, wildlife and more themes. When it comes to ones placed in containers, the glass jar is still the most popular container. Blue candles are also a popular decorative choice for many holidays and special occasions because they are available in many different shades and scents. There is always a way to add a beautiful something blue to your decor.

If you are having trouble finding blue candles in the right shade or scent, consider using candle holders in blue shades instead. Candle holders come in a wide array of shapes and styles from simple glass globes or basic blue pots to ceramic pottery, beaded candle holders, designer candelabras, stained glass holders or etched enamel designs. By choosing blue candles or blue candle holders, you can use any candle or candle holder color and scent you prefer while still enjoying a cool touch of blue.

One of the most popular types of candles that are available today is the scented jar candles. There are many reasons for its popularity such as availability, convenience and being longer lasting. One can find jar candles in a number of scents in most stores and online. They come in a wide variety of colors and scents and make for wonderful gifts either to yourself or to others.

Scented candles in a jar are wonderful because they are so easily found. Most drug stores, discount stores and even grocery stores have a selection of these candles available. Generally, one will have a limited amount of choices to select from, but in most cases, one can find a candle that suits their needs. Purchasing jar candles from a specialty store whether in person or online can offer a much better selection of these candles. There can be a greater variety in color, scent and size. In addition, many candle stores will offer jar candles in other types of jars, rather than using the same shape as everyone else. This can be a wonderful addition to those who wish to be a little more unique in their candle choices.

One of the major advantages in a scented candle jar is their convenience. With these candles, there is no need to worry with candle wax messes on your furniture or floors. The jar acts as a candleholder but one that has sides and can contain the mess all in one place. This can save someone who uses their candles a great deal, much in the way of clean up time. Because of the jar, they have a built in candleholder and this means there will also be less mess on one’s tables or other surfaces.

Candles make great gifts and scented jar candles do this with an extra flair. There is something quite special about receive a jar candle in your favorite color or scent. It lets someone know how much they are thinking of the other person, and how well they really know them. By picking a candle with a scent that is special to the person you are buying the gift from, it quickly becomes a personalize gift with little effort. When one gives a jar candle as a gift, there is little fuss in the wrapping of the present. Most candles look great with the addition of a big bow. What an easy way to give someone a special gift without a lot of effort.

Candle Crazed Candle Company offers an array of candle jars, from mason to apothecary, in many different sizes. Each candle is hand poured, and made with all natural soy or palm wax.

The term Yankee, sometimes shortened to Yank has several interrelated meanings, usually referring to people originating in the northeastern United States, so it will come as no surprise that the Yankee Candle company originated in the United States. This article gives candle fans an insight into the origins of Yankee Candle and how its flagship store differs from the average Yankee Candle store.

The Attractions of Western Massachusetts

As is often the case, things are often much bigger and better in America. Massachusetts is no exception. From the Basketball Hall of Fame to the Dr. Seuss Memorial sculpture garden, the Forest Park to the Norman Rockwell Museum, there is certainly plenty to see in Western Massachusetts. A somewhat more unusual, though no less alluring attraction is the Yankee Candle flagship store – now one of the entire State’s top tourist destinations. At over 90,000 square feet, it’s not so much a candle store as a candle country, with every conceivable shape and fragrance of candle available for the candle lover to purchase.

However, what the Yankee Candle flagship store offers is more than simply a shopping expedition, it’s an experience. Its top attractions include Wax Works, where you can experiment with candle wax to fashion your own unique creations. Other popular activities include Dip-Your-Own candles – where you can dip and create taper candles, Dip-Your-Own wax hands – dip your hands in wax and make a perfect wax mould of your hands and Make Your Own jar candle – where you can create your own layered candle. These activities are fun for everyone, especially the kids.

A Must Visit Destination

What’s more, besides being the world’s largest candle shop, the store also proudly proclaims that it is the world’s greatest Christmas shop too. It’s a brave boast, but one Yankee Candle do much to live up to by creating a wonderland complete with Bavarian Christmas Village, snowy Black Forest and Nutcracker Castle. And what would Christmas be without Santa? In the Yankee Candle flagship store, the main man resides in the magnificent surroundings of his Enchanted Toy Works.

As if that weren’t enough to keep visitors enthralled, further entertainment is provided in the Kringle Market by the Candle Mountain Boys and animatronic band. All that adventure is bound to leave you with quite an appetite – those looking for dessert-style treats and lighter lunch fare are catered for by Mrs. Claus’ Bakery & Cafe, whilst those requiring something a little more substantial can head to the renowned Chandler’s restaurant for lip-smacking local favourites such as the signature clam chowder.

It may not be the first place that comes to mind when you’re in Western Massachusetts, but the range of activities and sheer spectacle of the Yankee Candle flagship store make it a ‘must visit’ destination.

Soy wax is nice to work with because you can use your household microwave to melt the product usually cook on a half setting and check frequently about every 20 seconds on the candles’ consistency for the pouring process.

What will you need to make soy candles:

A microwave
Soy wax (from your local hobby.craft store)
Mold, jar or some other shaped container.
A wick.
Fragrance.
Colour.

Everything needed can be bought from a craft store in your area and can even be purchased in a soy making kit as in the list above or purchased individually for a better deal.

Easy Candle be Careful

To make soy candles it does not require rocket science but like rockets and their fuel you should be careful, when cooling the wax it can have strange effects, soy wax can easily crack in cold conditions.

Soy wax sometimes sticks in the mold and to help it out of the mold you can put the candle and mold into a freezer for a few minutes. There is a chance the soy wax could crack. The last thing you want in soy candle making is a cracked and disheveled candle.

Happy Candle Making!

Warm Vanilla, Clean cotton, Apple pie, Honeydew melon…these are just some of my favorite candle scents. Each one is so unique, so different, and pleasing in it’s own special way. Candles do so much more than just light a room. They fill the air with lovely aromas, provide a warm glow for an intimate occasion, provide tranquility after a hard day at work, and turn a house into a home. I would definitely consider myself to be a “candle” person. I love candles, whether they be a warm, familiar scent or a new unique one. I burn different scents depending on my mood, or what I’m doing. For instance, I love the smell of clean cotton when I’m cleaning my house; but when I’m baking, I would prefer the aroma of warm vanilla. When I take a nice warm bubble bath, I enjoy some sort of ocean or breeze scented candle. Candles come in all different shapes, sizes, scents, and more importantly brands. While I have to admit that the shape, size, and scent are all important factors, depending on your use, nothing, in my opinion, is more important than the brand. Although there are several pleasing and unique candles out there, my favorite is without a doubt Yankee. There is nothing better than the smell of a brand new yankee candle. Candles also make wonderful gifts. Who wouldn’t love to get a daffodil scented candle in a nice large jar, or a box of raspberry scented votives? I think candles are pretty much a universal gift. There has got to be a scent for everybody out there! Homemade candles have also become a great gift. You can get all of the supplies you need at your local craft store and create your own unusual and unique scents. You can even start your own small business and make a little extra money. I don’t think I will ever give up my love of candles. I love to give candles, to receive candles, to buy candles, and to make them. I love that there’s always a new scent that I didn’t see the last time. I like picking a few different scents out and then burning them together to create my own special scent. I pray that candles never “go out of style” for I don’t know what I would do! So, the next time you’re out shopping for a gift, be it a birthday, Christmas, or housewarming, remember that everyone loves a nice candle with a pleasing scent. You really can’t go wrong with it!

The scented candle is a product which has remained a popular gift over many years. With more and more increased competition internally and externally, this method of home fragrance is under pressure, and it is within this article that these pressures are questioned – why should the scented candle be defended against such pressures and why the scented candle will continue to be just simply a perfect gift.

Interior design is a continually evolving business; new trends, new styles, new products. I present one example of this. With the ascension of the fragrance diffuser in recent years, the scented candle has suffered. The fragrance diffuser, which is also known as the reed diffuser, is marketed as a safer way to provide luxury household scenting, eliminating the fire hazard which candles present. The fragrance diffuser does provide varied advantage; aromas through this means can be deployed anywhere, in places where scented candles simply cannot reasonably be used; diffusers rule the workplace. But there is still a place for the scented candle in our homes. Any worries and fears over the use of candles in the home can easily be allayed. Most candles now come in non-flammable holders which do not fall over easily, and if used sensibly by keeping the flame away from anything particularly flammable, such as curtains, can be as safe as any other household object. When used properly candles can be a safe addition to the look and feel of your house – there is something unmistakably atmospheric about the glow of a scented candle as it fills the room with its essence.

A scented candle is another of those products which can be called a perfect gift; the appeal is universal. Such candles are atmospheric, soothing, the ideal gift for ‘her’. There is a reason why ‘smelly candles’ are at the top of many women’s lists this year. But scented candles are not restricted to personal presents, and hold as a successful home gift. From an interior design point of view, scented candles can be instrumental. The scented candle can provide the finishing touches, or can equally dominating the focus of a room depending on Candle styles and positioning. Fronting duel properties as a room scenting and supplementary lighting device, the scented candle already notches an advantage over other means of home fragrance. It should be noted of course that the scented candles main aim is that of fragrancing, not lighting, but the comforting glow of such a product really contributes towards a feeling of warmth and comfort and always needs to be considered. Another overlooked advantage includes the stylistic merits of the candle itself. The candle holder is an opportunity for designers to create something which can perform as a stylish home accessory, added flair to the design of the candle in a way which the fragrance diffuser is limited in – there are only so many ways fragrance oil diffusers can be visually displayed. For scented candles the possibilities are endless; candles in gorgeous glass holders, crafted ceramic bowls, modern designed flasks, an opportunity is given for the candle to become more a piece of art than simply a means of home fragrance.

Most importantly however, luxury candles cannot be beaten when it comes to inventive and specialist scents, the main reason why scented candles are used in the first place. Smell is a very powerful sense, strongly connected with subconscious feelings and memories. Room scents can help reaffirm such connections with your own home, or even to bring back pleasant memories from long before. Room fragrance is not just a pleasant aroma, or means to clear undesirable odours, but has a much firmer connection to the overall design and feel of a home. One particular brand which I would like to mention in this case is the Baobab Collection, which began operating in 2002. Tracing its roots back to Tanzania, this brand has selected scents which bring you straight into the African heartland. Exotic aromas such as Serengeti Plains, White Rhino and Madagascar Vanilla are truly unique, making a huge difference to the atmosphere of a room. These scents succeed in transporting you to the African plains, and physically look great in transparent glass containers. But this is just one example of the carefully crafted scent ranges available across the market, an illustration of how much choice is available in this highly competitive area. There is a reason why, even through increased competition in the home fragrance market in general, that the scented candles market remains strong, and it is the sheer quality of the goods out there.

Article by Crafty Candle Making

If you are thinking of making candles at home then the best type of wax for you to use would be Soy wax. Soy is a natural cleaner burning wax that is becoming a favorite natural wax with homemade candle enthusiasts.

This natural wax is made from the oil of soybeans, and has been around since the early 1990s, with the majority of the world’s soybeans being grown in the United States. Being a naturally grown product, soy candles are more environmentally friendly.

Benefits of soy candles include:• Cleaner Burning – Soy wax is non-toxic and burns cleaner than paraffin. • Natural Wax• Longer Burning – Soy candles burn slower than a paraffin wax candle• Holds color and scent better• Biodegradable

It is also reported that Soy candles are soot free, but no candle can be soot free, it’s just that they have less then other waxes, soy wax is also easier to clean up then paraffin, using soap and water for any mess that you make.

Although there are some good benefits of using soy candle wax to make your homemade candles, soy is a softer wax that isn’t recommended for pillar candles unless additives are added to the wax. Sometimes a soy/paraffin mix is used in these types of candles.

The benefits of using natural wax for your candles are very favorable for the homemade candle maker, and for those who are also environmentally conscious. Also being a natural resource that helps out the local farmers is also a positive thing about using soy. A lot of container candles are now being made with soy wax, some companies exclusively choosing to just use soy wax, as there tends to be a lean towards more environmentally friendly natural resources.

There is no different methods with making homemade soy candles then using other waxes besides the fact that soy melts at lower temperatures, and or course it is a softer wax, so additives may be necessary for free standing candles.

Although this wax melts at a lower temperature, it is still important to follow safety precautions, and to treat any burns as you would when using other waxes. Also always have a fire extinguisher handy in case of accidents.

If you are looking at candle making as a hobby or as a business, consider soy wax as the wax that you would use for your candles. Homemade candles containing soy wax have become very popular with today’s candle makers.

Although I only have been making candles since March 2011, I have come to enjoy this as more than a hobby, and have started to sell some of my creations! It is an enjoyable craft that I get my children involved with, as they like making candles for the friends and to give relatives them for presents. Homemade candes can be a good business opportunity for anyone looking to make a second income!!
